IN THIS DEEP

93FC754B-79DC-4382-88D7-A1CC22C300B5What could send me down this far
But your wild path bizarre?
Who could bring me down this deep
But your crooked steady stream?

All bowed over and needles fine
You curvy as the number nine
Stitched together in woodly scents
to pitch me in here like a tent

Red o red o green o green
I wondered if you heard my screams
Flow and free and green serene
I wondered if you’d seen my dreams

Branched like brooks like roots like lungs
Inside me run your ancient tongues
Your hermit thrush to tuck me in
Then golden-green to wake again

Redly barked and greenly packed
I wondered if you’d bring me back
The world’s noise had got me good
Until you whispered through my blood

What could send me down this far
but your wild path bizarre?
Who could bring me in this deep
But your steadfast summoning?

COLLATERAL BEAUTY

DB58FC07-B97C-403B-BFA4-046B6D4FFCBANot intending to I found myself
bent over on hands and knees

face nose-deep
in the forest of pineapple weed
scooping up the sharp-sweet
candy coated sword of sensory delight

I was hooked by the nostrils—
that animal body I hang out with
was at it again
and asked me to come along
for the ride

It’s the way the dance arrives
like wind
from out of no where
possessing my limbs
making me do things
no one in their right mind
would do

but everyone in their right body
would do
with the flow of their own wind

It’s how I found a pair of antlers
and a pair of wings

My pair of legs
led me to a pair of bears
My pair of eyes
to a paradox

It’s how I met coyote
and the goose that laid
the golden egg
that hatched the gosling
that gave the feather
that’s in my crooked cap

It’s how the heart-shaped stone
at the bottom of the river
found its way to the altar
at the bottom of my well

It’s how the scent of her skin
still clings to me
and my tongue still testifies
to the taste of her everything

It’s why the palms of my hands have beautiful bruises from the drum slap
tap
rap
rhythming raucously
without a why

It’s how the seven new scratches that decorate my arms and legs
are like tattoo trophies
won from finding the view
of the mountain
with moons and stars on its shoulders—

Collateral beauty of a body
following it’s own path

So no, I don’t mind coming along
for the ride
when my body gets hooked
by the smells and shapes
of an endlessly rippling world

🌱WILD NATURE HEART ACADEMY🦉

50F167C2-8EA0-4A92-9C4D-D1D4B1074F09.jpegReally excited about what’s emerging! I’m launching Wild Nature Heart Academy.

It’s still early, but I couldn’t wait to announce it. In a couple months I will be Inviting JUST 8-10 PEOPLE to join the first edition of Wild Nature Heart Academy’s introductory online course: RECLAIMING YOUR WILD NATURE HEART. This is the online version of the on-the-land version of the course that I will host in Humboldt County.

The interactive course is for people who are on the path of rewilding and cultivating a deeper belonging to place, purpose, and people. For those transitioning to a deeper earth-centered and sensual life and those unfurling a meaningful livelihood sharing your unique gifts that honors our earth home and our wholeness as people. And for those exploring their inner wilderness and eager to expand their toolbox of exploration, and wanting to share with others.

Participants will not only have a transformative, nourishing, and inspiring experience, but will also be in the first cohort who will help shape the Wild Nature Heart Academy. It is also an opportunity to be part of the growing edge of the ever-expanding rewilding and nature-connection/ecotherapy movements.

More soon on details as the curriculum is developed, but for a glimpse now: there will be 8 modules (on topics ranging from Deep Belonging, Deep Listening, and Stepping into Your Power, to Joanna Macy and The Work That Reconnects, the 4 Shields of Human Nature, and The Way Of Council), weekly video meetups, Deep nature and wild soul connection Practices and activities, guest teachers, 1-on-1 earth-rooted mentoring/inner wilderness guiding sessions, Assistance designing on-the-land experiences and creating a self-ceremony, poetry, and council circle with peers doing similar work and learning.

If this sounds like you, put a pin in it or DM me (ryanvanlenning@gmail.com) with your interest. More soon! 🤠

What Song-Basket Could Contain It All?

813C373D-83A2-4468-B069-BB7109199D75What they call love,
I call the wings of a tree
the sand-song of a river beach
multiplied by spring
divided by day and night.

So why don’t I want to resolve
among the 1-4-5-1?

What works works.

Yet I loiter on the 8th fret
looking downstream toward
the common chords
where all the meandering noodles
end up in time,
that great pincer.

Umbilical whoosh and porous I,
out of near storm fuse and fury
harvest all the inborn plenitude
to solo note upon note
while this stalking moon wanes
and waxes wise reciting
Heraclitus as her bloody comrade.

Filled, I want to spill the fullness
into the sky
and her heart
despite myself.

What chord can resolve it?
What song-basket could possibly contain it all?

A Crack and Hidden Yes

3342E15F-2687-4DF6-9E3D-5580B3CDB0EDEven the fabulously defeated
Coiled and feeling beaten
Wintered in and done with pain
Can’t help but open up again

Has a crack and hidden yes
All’s not black amidst the mess
Has a soft under the hard
A healing for every scar

Protect the core…for sure, for sure
Bending inward so as not to bleed
But done with love is done with life
And Light needs dark as dark needs Light

Its inner arms reaching out
Past the wound, past the doubt
And finds a way to come and play
The voice within as if to say:

I have a crack and hidden yes
All’s not black amidst the mess
I will not coil hard and tight
I’ll find the touch, and let the light

Spiral In Beauty Way

59499619_317234725878934_8046223539278174835_nLet’s spin greenly into each other

Make a playful pact and sign it
with the green ink of sunlit trust

Let’s walk the Spiral-in-Beauty Way
Proclaim Yes the shimmers

Yes all the hues, old patterns and new ripples

Yes the great green garments of summer
and its endless faces

Let’s green our minds
and pour the old songs
into each other’s heart-mouths

Unfurl into each other’s laps
until we have no more defense
against the miracles
