And Then There Were None

toughiefrog_092816Toughie died today
far from his tree-top jungle home
in Panama

his final solitary years
in an Atlanta garden
were lonely

but gave him the chance
to let the world know him
and his bulging black eyes

and his skin too thin
for the fungus
that took his brethren

future generations will be able to
see photographs
and YouTube videos
and learn that
Rabbs’ fringe-limbed tree frogs
and hundreds of other amphibians
existed once upon a time

But he left a song for us and them

His last words croaked,
“And then there were none.”
